“Top Gun: Maverick” comes out this week. Actual photo of me at the movie theater:
JETS. JETS. JETS. I am absolutely on the on-ramp of the highway to the danger zone.
Tom Cruise may be a loon, but his filmography fills me with endless joy, so I can’t ever quit him. And he keeps kicking so much ass. Never stop, Tom. Action movies need you.
IMDB also tells me that Miles Teller is playing Bradley Bradshaw. You know whose name was Nick Bradshaw? Goose! RIP. So we’ve got a “My dad died because of you” situation. I wonder if that causes any tension?
To get ready for the new flick, try this mini quiz about the original 1986 classic.
Questions:
- What type of jets do the U.S. Naval aviators fly in the film?
- Commander Mike “Viper” Metcalf is the top dog at Topgun, and he also flew with Maverick’s father. What actor played Viper?
- What song do Maverick and Goose use as their ploy for Mav to hit on Charlie at the bar?
- Maverick’s wingman early in the film has a breakdown in the air and later resigns, meaning Maverick goes to Topgun. What’s his call sign?
- Nicknamed “Fightertown, USA” what city was home to the Topgun program (before it moved to Nevada in 1996)?
Answers up after the volleyball scene, because it’s a nice start to Memorial Day weekend. That’s it. That’s the only reason I would include it.
Answers:
- F-14A Tomcat
- Tom Skerritt
- “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling” by the Righteous Brothers
- Cougar
- San Diego
